Manolo Diaz Announces Retirement From EMI
July 02, 2008 - Latin

By Leila Cobo, Miami

Veteran executive Manolo Díaz has announced he will voluntarily retire from EMI after serving as advisor for the label's Latin region for a little over a year. Diaz had served as chairman of the Latin Grammy's Board of Trustees before joining EMI Music Spain as president and CEO in 2004.

In March of 2007, he relocated to Miami to help the company's Latin operations. In an email, Diaz said he would return to Spain to "start a new stage in which I will emphasize hedonistic and pleasurable pursuits [...] But all in moderation, including moderation. Viva la Vida!"

In other EMI news, EMI Televisa, EMI's U.S.-based Latin label, is moving its operations to Los Angeles, sources say. The move becomes official Sept. 1. Jeanne Meyer, EMI Music's senior VP for corporate communications for the Americas would not confirm the shift to the West Coast, saying that the label is looking at a different range of location options for EMI Televisa. She did confirm, however, that EMI will maintain a Miami office with "key regional functions" for the Latin region.
