Digital Briefs: Metallica On ‘Guitar Hero,’ UMG Taps Bell

-- Every song from Metallica’s upcoming album, “Death Magnetic,” will be available for gamers to download and play on “Guitar Hero III” and its sequel “Guitar Hero World Tour” on the same day that it is released to retail, the band said on its Web site.
No specific dates were provided for when the album will drop. Microsoft also mentioned the availability during its keynote at the E3 gaming conference in Los Angeles.
-- Universal Music Group has named Christopher Bell VP of advanced technology for the company’s eLabs division. Based in Santa Monica, Calif., he will report to Christopher Horton, who carries the same title. Bell was most recently senior director of advanced technology for the eLabs division. He came to UMG from telecom and publishing company People 2 People, where he was chief technology officer.
